The next Sailfish OS software update (Äijänpäivänjärvi) is now available for everyone. As previously, the update was first made available as an early release to more advanced users who have opted in to be among the first to try it. Read about the procedure here.
What new in this update?
For this software release we’ve made some important fixes for the Android application support, which should make the user experience even better than before. Many security fixes have also been on the list, plus improvements to applications and features, including:
- Maps are now available in landscape mode, meaning you can use them regardless of orientation
- Keyboard: the virtual keyboard can now be divided into two parts in landscape mode, making it easier to write with both hands
- Email: IMAP idle/push support is now added to mail accounts, meaning that your email inbox should be up to date all the time
- Gestures: the swipe gesture has been changed providing better feedback to the user (try it out and you’ll see!)
Certain changes in the Sailfish OS Facebook integration (XMPP chat API) will no longer be available after April 30, 2015. For the time being Facebook account login, instant messaging and contacts sync are not supported. We continue to investigate the situation with Facebook and hope to find a resolution soon. We will keep you informed of the outcome. Sorry for the inconvenience.

We hope you enjoy the update Äijänpäivänjärvi! And do try to pronounce the name 🙂
On behalf of the Jolla Team,
Juhani
Perhaps wise to add the updated info on the issues with the release and the fact it has been pulled?
Update on the release: about 0.8% of the devices have statefs missing after the upgrade, which – unless developer mode is already installed – can only be fixed by factory reset. We’re putting the rollout on hold to investigate. We are hoping to fix this very soon and will continue with the usual release process as soon as we can!
About the Facebook API changes, is it at least possible to keep on the phone some of the contacts’ details, like birthdates ?
Hi nizph! Unfortunately no, but we’re working on it!
My friends in China some are using the update 1.1.4.29, why I still can not get the notification for any update?
Hi rex7ba! As you might have heard, we had to put the early access on hold for some time and we are still testing the fixed version internally before rolling it out. We’re doing our best to get it out as soon as possible!
Hey, did you try to check for the update manually instead of waiting for the notification? My phone almost never checks for updates automatically, even if I have enabled it.
Hello Sthocs,
I have no autority nor knowledge on this, but let me guess, you might have downloaded and installed an android app atleast, which might be hindering the notification functionality, I might be totally wrong
Updated my phone to Aiyyaan Paivan Yaarvi, hope this is how you spell this update. The most magical things are swipe (gestures) and split keyboard, way to go Jolla, way to go.
Hi. I love this update, IMAP/Idle push works perfect for me, I needed a lot this feature. The split keyboard is very comfortable and in general the system feels more responsive. Thanks a lot for your work !
I’m still waiting for Camera software update… Now, it is not acceptable (compare with others phones) 🙁
Totally agree with you jollamonster
Hello there,
Noticed that when Bluetooth is switched on there is considerable heat generated (much more than usual that is felt), not sure this is an update specific thing.
Maybe this is the reason for faster battery drain.
